Semen Padang F.C.
Semen Padang Football Club is a professional football club founded at 30 November 1980 by Mr. Azwar Anas and owned by PT. Semen Padang, which is the oldest cement companies in Indonesia. This football club based in Indarung, Padang, West Sumatra and called Kabau Sirah or Red Bull. Before the creation of Liga Indonesia, as a professional club owned by a company, they competed at Galatama. Their 1st title was winning the Piala Galatama on 1992, by a vital goal from Delfi Adri into Arema Malang net, thus qualified them for their 1st appearances at Asia level, the 1993-94 Asian Cup Winners Cup. At that competition, they fought until reach the quarterfinal.
Semen Padang F.C. also known as Indonesia's team which combined local talent from Sumatra, mixed with Papua. One of memorable moment in 2002, when they went into 2002 Liga Indonesia Premier Division before defeated by champion's Petrokimia Putra in penalty shoot-out. At that season, coach Suhatman Imam brought Ellie Aiboy, Paulus Krey, Erol Iba, and blend them with local talent such as Hengky Ardiles, Rommy Diaz Putra, Nico Susanto, Kusdiyanto, Effendi Ibrahim, and flamboyan goalkeeper Zulkarnain Zakaria. In their journey, they beat favorite team such as Persija Jakarta, PSM Makassar, Barito Putra, Arema Malang, Persib Bandung, and their nemesis, PSMS Medan.
Semen Padang FC currently have a stadium, which has about 15.000 seats. This stadium was named Haji Agus Salim Stadium, an intellectual and a national hero from the local Muslim Minangkabau.
Supporters of this club formerly called Urang Awak. But since 2001, this club has fanatical supporters called The Kmer's (Kabau Sirah Fans Club). And now Semen Padang also has another group of supporters called Spartacks (Supporter Padang Dan Anak Rantau Cinta Kabau Sirah) or literally (Padang Supporter and Outsiders Loving Kabau Sirah) and The Kmer'snita and Uni Spartacks (for woman supporters) and UWS (Ultras West Sumatera) 1980, who always competed to support the team.
Semen Padang have a very tough competitor in the league, Sriwijaya, since the beginning of the Indonesia Super League. Their meeting usually called derby kalasik. This game is also often called the Sumatra Derby. Another fierce competitor are PSMS Medan and PSPS Pekanbaru.
