Prof. Thomas Jamaladin, Finding UFOs in Science and Religion




Professor Thomas Jamaladin interest initially at Unindentified Flying Objects (UFOs) since high school reading of popular scientific magazines. Thomas will be curious foreign objects in space was pursued through science and sync them with their religion, Islam.

"I was challenged to find life outside of Earth in the 1970s until the early 1980s are rampant stories about Unidentified Flying Object or UFO. Currently a high school class I read many books about UFOs and eventually wrote an article, 'UFO: How According to Religion?, published in the magazine 'Scientiae' in 1979, "the story of Thomas who won the title of LIPI research professor in December 2010.

It was announced by Thomas after accepting the award Sarwono Prawirohardjo Award (Sarwono Award) to-XII of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in Building LIPI, Jl Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, Friday (23/08/2013).

Not satisfied with the work of the maiden, who was born in Navan, January 23, 1962 was more intrigued to explore astronomy. Read a variety of books but not enough to quench the thirst of curiosity.

"Little by little I knew astronomy in college in Astronomy ITB. At that time I went in without testing in the selection of Pilot Project II," he recalls proudly.

Not just merely lectures and study, Thomas, was also active in Islamic spirituality in Salman Mosque of ITB and a mentor in the mosque for 13 semesters. Explore the science of astronomy in college and religions outside of class hours, Thomas found that the principles of Islam have also used astronomy. Such as solar and lunar eclipses, prayer timings, the determination of the Islamic calendar. He is very motivated to combine astronomy with Islam.

"I make science and Islam as a part of me," said the man who studied astronomy to earning a doctorate at the Department of Astronomy, Kyoto University, Japan with the Monbusho scholarship
